Together with Rural Action and its Zero Waste Initiative the Nelsonville Music Festival is working hard to become a ZERO WASTE event in the future. This year we are working on having composting and recycling stations all around the grounds, compostable service ware at the vendors, free water stations and more!
In 2011 the Nelsonville Music Festival:
- Recycled over 1,630 pounds of materials and we hope to DOUBLE that amount in 2012 to achieve a 90% diversion rate.
- 2,958.75 kWh of electricity was saved from the aluminum recycled at the festival (as much energy as a medium sized house uses in one year).
- 4,734 lbs. of raw ore and chemicals were saved by the aluminum recycled at the festival.
We hope to expand our efforts more in 2012, do your part and come ready to RECYCLE and COMPOST! And consider carpooling or riding your bike to the festival to lower your impact even more.
Other GREEN activities at the festival include: recycled art and instrument making in the kids area, re-usable beer cups in the beer garden, compostable service ware, free water stations, and more. Producing a festival involves the use of a lot of resources, and although we try to keep our carbon footprint as small as possible.
Please consider donating to our Zero Waste Initative fund to support all of these efforts and to ensure that we can use the phrase "beautiful rolling hills" for years to come.
The beautiful Hockhocking-Adena Bikeway runs right by the festival gate and we encourage biking to the festival (you just can't bring your bike in the gates). The GoBus has a stop right on the Hocking College campus across from the Festival Campground too!
You can right now to help do you part to keep the festival GREEN!
On the Nelsonville Music Festival website, we say that our festival is "set in the beautiful rolling hills of Southeastern Ohio". This isn't just a marketing ploy; this is a small description of the place that we love. These hills and these forests and these rivers are important to us and we want to leave this place better than we found it.
If you want to help with our recycling and grounds crew send an e-mail to volunteer@nelsonvillefest.org
