When Brooklyn, N.Y., guitarist-vocalist Derek Watson decided to form a band called Hunters with his banshee-throated Brazilian girlfriend Isabel “Izzy” Almeida, the couple had no financial resources to speak of. But songs like “Deadbeat” and “Noisy Bitch” were so commanding in concert, they wound up depending on the kindness of high-profile strangers: ex-Smashing Pumpkins axman James Iha offered his production skills for the quartet’s first EP, “Hands on Fire,” and Yeah Yeah Yeahs founder Nick Zinner chipped in with the mixing. So it was a point of pride for Hunters to self-produce their eponymous, even nastier, new full-length album.
